The most recent update to Hellgate: Leisure Wreck Shawn* features the return of Nightmare mode, along with promise of Hell mode in the very near future.

There is however, a very interesting twist to Nightmare this time around...

The Difficulty Selection UI

- Located in the upper right hand corner, a little to the left of your mini-map, this drop down box lets you select the difficulty of all dungeons you (and your party) enters after you exit the station.

- By default, all dungeons are set on normal difficulty. When you change them to nightmare mode, you experience the following:

  • - Monster stats are increased by a factor of 2-3x; similar to elite mode, but not as extreme
  • - Champion group spawn rates are increased dramatically
  • - Drop rates are increased by 100%, and the quality of drops are increased by 40%
  • - Experience is increased by 30% and palladium is increased by 25%
  • - Champion and unique monsters have new buffs that give them immunity to various damage effects (I.E. Immunity to fire, toxic, etc.)
  • - Boss monsters and certian regular monsters use new attacks (I.E. Liches now use drain life, Shulgoth can now use anchor when his life gets low.)

* Hellgate: Resurrection is pronounced "Hellgate: Leisure Wreck Shawn" due to the Korean dialect.

Heh, I thought it was about Leisure Suit Larry, an old Sierra game duh.

Looks like brilliant news, making an effort to give gamers options.
Might be sudden death too, have never used escape type skills.
Is this stuff sub?

As far as I can tell, you can play Nightmare & Hell for free :)

There are no actual subscription fees, save the storage locker rentals.

didn't you mean HEH~~GATE LEISUL WLEKSHN?
besides that.. i don't really like how they change the game. and in a party, who decides in which mode you are going to play?
i prefer to initially chose normal or elite and then fight through the game normal and NM again.

goddammit.. dude, back then i and a friend tried to figure out english to get a woman into the bed. don't remember which larry game it was, though. but i do remember the super awesome turbo switch my friends rig had. and that we never succeeded in our plan to see glorious 3pixel boobs. that was in the days before the internet was 99,5% porn.. besides, internet was not exactly common or cheap at that time..

When you're in a party, the party leader's difficulty choice decides what the party faces. However, if you're in a different station instance than the party leader, then you'll still only feel the effects of whatever difficulty you were playing on until you join the same station instance as the party leader.

I.E. If the party leader is in Stonehenge 1, only the other party members in Stonehenge 1 will be feeling the effects of that party leader's difficulty choices.

Also, the difficulty selection only applies to dungeons you haven't yet entered in a play session. If you want to play them twice on a different setting each, you'll have to either relog or reset the instances.

(Relogging is a lot easier now since you can just quit to the character select screen instead of having to log all the way out).

That actually sounds like a step in the right direction.

Sadly it's a little World of Warcraft Heroic mode-y, but it sounds like a nice improvement on a decade old structure.

man, it was about fing time. i wonder how FSS could release the game without a feature as crucial as that. really good it's now implemented.
