First post here, so Hello!
Went to look for my old disc and found a missing Ghibli film in the Hellgate case. No disc, so I bought a brand new copy on Ebay this week.
Trying to install it and it's stuck on the Install Hellgate London screen (with "Cancel" at the bottom).
Any ideas about why? I'm at over 20 minutes now.
Edit 1 -- Malwarebytes or Windows Defender maybe? I tried to "Cancel" and selected "Yes" when asked, and the screen just stayed up. Tried to hit the "X" button to close the window, and was prompted as if I had hit "Cancel" again. So I just rebooted the PC and now I don't know what to do. There is no Flagship Studios folder in Program Files (x86) or Program Files, so the installer didn't even begin, it seems. CCleaner Registry cleaner had no entries related to the game, either.
Edit 2 -- Tried again, turned off the following Malwarebytes protections toggles: Malware/PUP, Ransomware, Exploit. Kept Web toggled on. Changed compatibility mode for Setup.exe on DVD to Windows XP SP2. This time the drive actually spun up to full speed (it never spun up at all on the first attempt) and stayed spinning like a jet engine for 10 minutes before I cancelled the operation, and had to shut down the installer process using Task Manager. Drive kept spinning at full speed until I ejected the tray. Still no Flagship Studios folder written to the Program Files folder.
Edit 3 -- Tried again. Turned off all of Malwarebytes. Ran Setup.exe in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2, this time as Administrator. Same results. I'm giving up until I get some sage advice.
I notice that all the Windows-style file structures are present on the disc, and not contained in some sort of compressed installer. Is there a way to install just by copying files and running the DirectX setups, or must it be done with the installer?
Edit 4, final: found this thread, problem solved with the last comment, and a question:
https://hellgateaus.cyou/forum/hellgate-london-general/disk-is-failing-to-fully-install/Q: So what's all that other stuff on the DVD outside the Program Files directory? None of that is needed at all?
