The TRUTHS
« on: Apr 14, 2010; 04:53 pm »
Hi gents, just finished the game again with Eng. And since I read the 3rd book by Mel Odom (Covenant) I remembered that in that Book it was said that there were SEVEN TRUTHS!
And that the the missing ones are linked to the other factions of the game (THE MOTHER for the Cabalists and another unnamed one for the Hunters). Can anyone verify if there's any mention in the game about them? Or in any of the expansions for that matter. Hmm. Wonder what THESE TRUTHS' tests are. :?:
“THROUGH me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
All hope abandon, ye who enter here.”
Charon, Inferno Canto III line 1-3+9.

Covenant was published in August, 2008, right about the same time that FSS went out of business.  They would have never had a chance to include Covenant content in the live game.

Oh boy, do I feel really stupid. Oh well one foot in the mouth might as well add the other and ask if the other two can be add via mod now, or in the future (hopefully HG:R 2.0)?

I can't refute when/who decided on the existence of The Truths and their place in the HGL world.  The info is simply beyond my knowledge.

I will say this, however.  If FSS spent 5 years developing a story and a world for their game and they had not already decided upon something as central as the Truths (total number, roles, etc.) then it is little wonder that the in-game story line and plot were as completely pathetic as they were.

The writing quality gives even less cause to wonder -- it's pathetic without a doubt.

On that I just just got to agree with you. It's just sad that a fictional prequel based on a main plot of a game that took that long to design (And from the guys that worked on the Diablo games no less!) ended up with an even better plot than what it was based on! I don't know about you but I have half a mind to send Mel Odom not only my thanks and salutations for writing such a good trilogy but also my pleas for a sequel. Anyone Else's with me?

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they would've put out a better story if their backs weren't against the wall for release, and that if given the chance to release the same number of patches that D2 got, we'd be playing a greater game. It's still good, addictive fun, and they still have jobs in the industry, so they must be doing something right.

And I haven't read the prequel -- is it available online?

I do. There are none! Zip. Nada. Probably due to the fact that the first book is about 20-30 years BEFORE THE GAME! Now you see yet another reason to petition a sequel! <pervy evil grin>

Wood, you do realise that Mel Odom would now have to get hanbitsoft's permission to continue, if he was willing to of course.

WHAT!? <Jaw drops> You're kidding me right!? You mean to tell me that they also bought the 'rights to the books along with the game itself!? Please say it isn't so!  :|
