focus item elemental modifications
« on: Apr 21, 2010; 11:17 pm »
ive been wondering

all focus item give spells a chance to cause elemental effects

what i wonder is if i give a focus item a relic that increases elemental damage say +5% toxic damage would all my spells now have a chance of inflicting poison since they are dealing toxic damage?

As far as the 'minigame' is concerned, yes, you would now be doing Toxic damage as well, however you'd have to look at the weapon and see what the 'Poison' effect strength is of the weapon to see what chance there is of procing the effect

but what about focus items?

all focus items give elemental effect chance (found in their details)
and i can only guess this means for any elemental focus spell coming out of the focus item

what my question is though is first do elemental damage modifing relics apply to the spells when on a focus item and second can this modified damage apply its effect even if you are using a spell with a different element
example
focus item has a relic that adds +5% spectral damage
i use a fire spell (doesnt matter which)
i assume that the fire spell now deals both fire damage and spectral damage
should the end result be that my fire spell would have a chance of procing both ignite and phase because focus items always have an inate chance of procing effects for spells?  or will it just have a chance of procing ignite but still cause spectral damage

now im not talking about mods that increase effect strengths just mods that increase elemental damage

Focus skills themselves are element specific... so If your using any of the toxic spells your already doing toxic damage and therefore have a chance to proc poison.

To *add* and element to a different elemental focus attack... i.e. adding ignite to venomous spirit you must equip a damage mod of fire and a strength attack mod of ignite.  This adds in ignite to the focus itself...

Note this also adds ignite elemental attack to every other evoker skill too, even skills like drain life//power.... and would further boost the effects of fire based skills... ( procing ignite would be easier)

This was a basic question answered in the old flagship forums which has since gone under... And someone new to the game wouldn't have known.

I've got toxic damage on one focus and +poison affect on the other, and sometimes I hear the poison affect when I hit things either with dual fire or demonspine. It tends to kill quicker than I can see the affect icon, but I assume that's what it's doing.

EDIT: Just fired off Bone Shards and saw a couple of green cloudy giblets dissolve on the ground beside me. Not sure if that was a Howler or a Ravager; either way, no Afterlife for them.

If you guys really want to get in depth with your evokers and gear them for the best possible damages and elemental strengths I have posted and in-depth and uptodate (sp patch 1.2) stats on how focus skills work, and how they are affected by single or dual wield....

http://www.hellgateaus.cyou/index.php?op ... f=50&t=290

Should contain 99% of all the questions that you guys might ask and have answers to them...

Be warned though it does go into quite mathematic depths....
