I think it's more that their tail explodes, not them.
At least they're not like snails, who have a love dart.
I give up. Nature is the ultimate troll.
Nature is a troll - I often wonder about the people who blather on about "isn't nature beautiful, singing songbirds and peacocks and bunnies".
Then you send them links to information about cordyceps fungus (the ant-zombie fungus that infects an ant, takes over its brain, "drives" the body up a tree, eating it as it goes, to a spot high enough for it to spore and infect more ants below.
Or a link to a wasp that catches cockroaches, doesn't kill them (the meat goes off very quickly), lays eggs in them and walls them into an underground hollow. The eggs hatch and the larvae eat the roach from the least life threatening part first... while it's alive, not sleep-drugged!.
Nature is beautiful... but equally horrific.
