Hellgate London 2018 steam version: Worth it?
« on: Nov 22, 2018; 10:23 pm »
So I was wondering, what do you guys think of the recent steam re-release of Hellgate? Technically it is the most "recent" version but as far as I heard it comes with a ton of caveats. For example the translation is loaded with tons of engrish, the game suffers from slowdown and the story has been altered somewhat as well.

So do you think its worth buying? What about mods, potential community fixes etc.? Do you feel this is going to be the "go to" version of the game from now on or is it just going to flop?

Can't say I've noticed a lot of Engrish (but then I don't really pay much attention to what's spoken).

Yeah, that slow-sown is horrible...  constant and seeming random drops to 2 frames per second.  Utter crap.

it has the basic "pay to get this slot unlocked" thing all commercial style games have.

I do like the way the area-bosses respawn so you can keep twatting them and getting exp/gold/items. Handy first off, probably irritating later on.

Depends on how much you miss the game.
With the current status of the game, Hanbit really shouldn't have released it at all though.
Not sure how they managed to worsen the notorious bug situation with this game but they did.
Granted that Hanbit at least deliver the Tokyo contents and a few necessary fixes,
I'd say it's worth $10 just for my personal nostalgia's sake.

It is such a mess right now.  The 1 FPS bug, no way to unlock mod slots, no loot drops from Stonehenge bosses, downgraded graphics, terrible translations, no Tokyo yet and I'm sure more.  Also there is no real re-balancing for solo play.  All they did is just make their former MMO easier.  For most of the London campaign it is a cakewalk and even when it starts to get a bit more challenging towards the end it is still pretty easy.

That said I've had a good time playing around in Global again.  I'm level 37 after about 40 hours of play.  Worth the $10 I paid for sure.

Revival and London 2038 are both much, much better.

EDIT: Also the Cube doesn't work, can't put anything into it.
