I am having a hard time seeing how they are even comparable. DC seems to be operating on a lower, more lizard brain level, than GC.

Apparently people weren't satisfied with the endless "pick one over the other" threads,now someone had to throw that bit of a mindcloud my way too.

For starters,isn't declaring someone "the new" someone else BS by definition?Especially when we're talking about comedy of all things.
Like comparing Slipknot to Godsmack and declaring one "the new" other wasn't enough for the internets. =.=
Second,like Zart so well pointed out,what kind of association can someone locate between the two?We have an obnoxious hyperactive random (albeit funny at times) bloke on one hand,and a person who carries 50 years' worth of stand-up comedy history on his back on the other.

Now that you mention it, Lewis Black would make a better "new" Carlin. We will never need a new Dane Cook.

It seems the public has a taste for recycling people as well as music and clothing, but trying to find new replacements for orginal acts tastes like Soylent Green to me..

Lewis Black indeed seems to be the closest we have to George Carlin at this point.On that matter though,I do see an eerie resemblance between his latest "Stark Raving Black" and "Life is worth losing",both subject-wise and...quality-wise.
Lewis has grown old as well I feel,what I would consider more appropriate for the position would be someone in the area of Carlin's 80s-90s career,somewhere along the lines of "What the fuck am I doing in New Jersey" and "Doin' it again".BUT just how likely is that.
Personally I make do with Eddie Izzard and his own "older stuff" now.

And oh God yes,we do seem to enjoy recycling whatever we cannot accept to be gone.The baffling "Placebo is the new Nirvana" comparison proven that oh too well,did it not.

I still hold that Carlin is better than all the aforementioned, considering the age he built his career in. Comedians can now put ridiculous clips out to the entire world for free. Carlin had to burst the bubble and hit national attention with TV in an age where not everyone even had one. I don't think there was a comedy central or a last comic standing to give him a boost.

Seriously, there will be no "new" George Carlin.

That's like , the "new" DaVinci, or Aristotle , or Mozart.
Some people just stand alone. Without comparison. Without equal.
George Carlin WAS George Carlin.
He was the alpha and omega of all that is Carlin.

Unless by "The New George Carlin"  they meant Dane Cook died.
Then yeah.. I'll through him a fucking bone.
